In addition to standard general practice consultations Sorrento Medical offers a number of multidisciplinary "clinics" incorporating some nurse care and sometimes other allied health care overseen by the general practitioners.
All of our diabetic patients are offered the services of our "diabetes clinic". This is a free service to our patients. Our nursing staff are an essential part of the team providing initial assessment and the Team Care Arrangements which enable our diabetics to get subsidised foot checks with a podiatrist and one on one diabetes education with our fully qualified diabetes educator. We have been running this service for many years and are impressed with the substantial improvement in diabetic control in our patients and this translates to fewer complications in the future.
The commonest cancer in Australians is skin cancer. This is an area which is often given scant attention by both patients and their GPs. We take this area very seriously and all doctors here have completed training and qualifications in skin cancer medicine. Combined with quality equipment we can offer a comprehensive examination and assessment of your skin. These are then followed up with management plans and surgery here where indicated. These clinics are conducted by appointment. When booking please ask for a skin clinic appointment and nominate the doctor of your choice.
Childhood immunisation has become an increasingly complex area and one that we value highly here. Our nurse immunisation consultant is Fiona Murrie and she is fully trained and qualified in all aspects of childhood immunisation. Our clinic runs every Wednesday morning between 10am and noon and your child will be offered a personalised service which is quite a contrast to the council run mass immunisation centres. This service is Bulk Billed and available to regular patients of the clinic only. When making a booking bring your medicare card and your child's immunisation book.
Dr Murrie is qualified to complete diving medicals. All aspects of the diving medical, including spirometry, can be completed on site. The total cost of this service is $165 including GST (medicare does not provide a rebate for this). Please tell the receptionist that you will be requiring a SCUBA medical at the time of booking.
We have a comprehensive range of travel vaccines available at a price that is lower than through conventional outlets. Dr Meggyesy has an interest and expertise in this area and is the southern peninsula's only accredited vaccinator for yellow fever vaccine. Typically the visit will attract a fee of $125 of which medicare provides a rebate of $71.70. The vaccine costs may attract a rebate from private health funds and a full list with prices is available at reception. Please inform reception if you require a travel consultation at the time of booking.
All patients over the age of 75 years are entitled to a full health assessment annually from their GP. At Sorrento Medical we provide this as a comprehensive service that includes a preliminary check with our nurse, Donna. This is followed by a comprehensive medical checkup with your regular GP. The purpose of all of this is to ensure thorough medical checks are performed on the elderly with a view to keeping them as healthy and as independent as possible. If you are interested in this service please contact the surgery and ask for Donna. These assessments are also fully bulk billed.
With the advent of "Point of care testing" we are able to monitor our patient's warfarin requirements at the clinic. With a drop of blood from a simple fingerprick we now get instant and accurate readings of blood leveles and are able to dose patients on the spot. This quick and convenient service is also bulk billed.

We have a fully qualified Pap smear nurse provider available for well woman preventative health checks. Fiona Murrie is a registered nurse and midwife who can perform Pap smears as well as provide counseling on preventative women's health issues. The cost of this visit is $75 and the out of pocket cost to you is $37.05.
